Welcome to the website of Gordon Longmead. I will begin by stating that this is a personal site, I am to old to and the fates have decreed that I will never be a wealthy person. This site has one aim, to present my pictures to the public and the shop and any commissions etc., go to support the realtime exhibitions and book publications that serve the same goal.

So who am I? I am a photographer, Author, Historian (local) and occassional painter in oils. Within the gallery you will find many of the pictures that comprise my portfolio. One or two are there for personal reasons and are not quite to the standard I expect of my work, these are obvious to the viewer and I hope you will forgive their inclusion. Images in the gallery are all available for purchase but may not be in the shop, if so, please let me know and I will add them.

Background

I first began in photography in 1962 when my late father decided to instruct me in the wonders of creating images from light. A family trend as his father taught him in the same practical manner. Time and the cost of film photography forced me to suspend my involvement in both local international exhibitions but the photography continued. In 1990 I began writing books of poetry and training programmes for business and computer applications. In 2005, after returning to Welwyn, I published my first book on the history of that village, followed the following year by the second and third volumes, to complete the set I published the history of Welwyn St. Mary's Secondary School in 2007. The last book, published in 2008, was of my personal poetry.

I returned to Photography as an artform in 2000 and began to stage exhibitions in Welwyn in June 2008 that have now become an annual event to which other local photographers are invited to exhibit.

I now offer my pictures for sale in a number of formats, Fridge Magnets, (Tartan Clan magnets), Picture Magnets, and photoprints are available within the shop. The shop also contains other items such as stunning 3D pictures, incense and laser crystal items that I feel people will like. For peace of mind you can use paypal through the site, or pay by cash, cheque and postal order.

Currently

 In the past the books have sold across the world from Australia to Canada, but in the last few months the pictures have sold as far afield as Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Poland, Norway, Spain and the USA, for this I would like to thank you all for your support.

Future

As for the future, who knows, I will continue to take pictures and present them to you via this website, I shall also expand on the items in the shop. I will soon complete (as far as possible) the series two range of clan tartan fridge magnets. Finally, I am happy to discuss commissions and advertising assignments, but not formal wedding photography although I am happy to attend functions to take informal images. Many of the images in the galleries are also available to be used as base advertising media, please contact me with requirements by email.

In addition to the pictures I mentioned that I also published a number of books, those currently available are listed in the shop.
The 'series' title is Memories of Welwyn and the series contains four titles;
People and Places,
Town and Village,
Masters and Misfits,
St Mary's Secondary School
